Who Is Eligible for the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund?

This “Designated Exposure Zone” is specifically delineated due to the significant dust, debris, and associated toxins released by the 9/11 attacks, which covered this area and posed a risk to health and wellbeing.

The crucial time frame for exposure is from September 11, 2001, to May 30, 2002. It is during this period that the risks from airborne toxins were highest due to the collapse of the Twin Towers and the subsequent cleanup efforts. Claims for compensation from the VCF must demonstrate the presence of the individual within the Designated Exposure Zone during this specific time frame.

The Designated Exposure Zone isn’t limited to the outdoors; it also includes buildings or portions of buildings that were destroyed or damaged as a result of the 9/11 attacks. Individuals who were present in these buildings during or after the attacks, whether as residents, workers, students, or first responders, are included in this coverage.

Relatives of Deceased Victims

If an individual was killed as a result of the 9/11 attacks or the subsequent debris removal, their personal representative can file a claim with the VCF.

Eligibility also requires that the individual have a physical health condition that is approved by the World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program and is linked to the 9/11 attacks. These conditions include, but are not limited to, various types of cancers, respiratory diseases, and musculoskeletal disorders.
